Squirrel Squad / November 13-15, 2026
A schedule with
room to breathe.
Slow mornings, good food, and long conversations by the river. A gentle rhythm for our time together.
A little structure, a lot of space. Apart from arrival and departure, let the times drift.
Friday / November 13
Leave the week at the door.
Soft clothes, something warm, and the pleasure of being here.
- After 4 PM
Settle in.
Find your room, put on something soft, and make yourself at home.
- Evening
Gather around the table.
Oktoberfest grazing and all the stories we haven't caught up on yet.
Crescent-wrapped little smokies, sliced chicken bratwurst, soft pretzel bites with beer cheese, potato pancakes with sour cream and chives, smoked Gouda and aged cheddar, cornichons, sauerkraut, grainy mustard, sliced apples and pears, rye crisps and pretzel crackers.
- A little later
Cake. One more story.
A slice of cake, a familiar game, or a conversation that runs past bedtime.
Saturday / November 14
The whole point is being here.
A day with nothing to chase. Fresh air if it calls; another cup if it doesn't.
- Wake slowly
Coffee first.
A quiet first cup, a soft sweater, and nowhere we need to be.
- Late morning
A breakfast worth lingering over.
Pumpkin and apple cider donut-hole French toast casserole with pecan streusel; maple-sage chicken sausage patties; fresh fruit; coffee and apple cider mimosas. Take your time.
- Midday
A little autumn comfort.
White chicken chili with white beans, poblanos, green chiles and corn; toppings bar; skillet cornbread with honey-sage butter.
A window-side chat or a little daylight outside if the weather suits.
- All afternoon
Let the afternoon unfold.
A board game, an open book, a nap. Or an optional wander in Leavenworth if we feel like venturing out. Staying cozy at the house is an equally good plan.
For grazing: caramelized onion dip with kettle chips; white cheddar popcorn; rosemary-spiced nuts; grapes and apples; maple cookies; chocolate-covered pretzels; another slice of cake.
A quick photo of the whole squad, if the moment feels right.
- Evening
An autumn supper.
Turkey sage meatballs in creamy pumpkin-Parmesan orzo; crispy sage and pepitas; roasted green beans with shallots and toasted almonds; apple, dried cranberry, goat cheese and candied pecan salad with maple-Dijon cider vinaigrette; rosemary focaccia.
A table worth staying at.
- After supper
One more round.
Caramel apple nachos with chopped pecans and mini chocolate chips. Favorite games, and absolutely no hurry to call it a night.
Sunday / November 15
One last slow breakfast.
A little lingering before we go.
- Morning
A final slow breakfast.
Tater tot crust quiche with bacon, caramelized shallots, Gruyère and chives; mixed greens with Dijon vinaigrette; berries; toasted sourdough with cultured butter and preserves; coffee and mimosas.
Stay at the table a little longer.
- Before we go
Take a little of the quiet with you.
A few more stories and a last look at the river.
- By 11 AM
Until next time.
Hugs, homeward, and another good weekend in the memory bank.
